This course is a graduate-level introduction to the design and production of multimedia. Topics will include: creating animations and interactive applications, designing for interactivity, integration of audio and video into multimedia productions, multimedia on the web, interface design, ideas of play and exploration in relation to interactive applications.
Projects will be completed primarily in the Adobe Flash authoring platform. Flash can be used to create games, interactive cinematic experiences, information visualizations, interactive research presentations, online widgets and much more.
There are no pre-requisites: students with little or no experience can expect to master the fundamentals of Flash and students with experience in Flash or other development platforms will be supported in developing more advanced projects.
Hands-on labs will be complemented with readings in theory and aesthetics.
The course is taught in the Media Study digital arts lab and carries a $100 lab fee.
Required text: Flash CS4 - The Missing Manual (published by Pogue Press/O'Reilly).
