Description:
In this course you will be introduced to the powerful Macromedia Flash authoring environment, learning how to create dynamic and interactive media for web sites, CD- ROM's, DVD's, mobile devices, kiosks, and more. Flash's capabilities for delivering high quality animation, sound, and video will be explored. We will take several projects from conceptualization through to digital publishing, creatively solving design and technical challenges along the way. Flash's 'Actionscript' programming language will enable you to enhance the design, performance, and interactivity of your projects.
Course Objectives:
This course will explore the nature of rich media and how graphic design and the user interface change when made dynamic through the addition of animation, sound, and interactivity. Students will be introduced to digital technologies used to create immersive experiences. They will be given the technological overview necessary to inform key decisions when designing for interactive mediums as well as more specific knowledge which may include topics such as compression, resolution and media delivery systems. The use of programming languages to achieve truly interactive experiences will be introduced both technically and conceptually.
Class Format:
Class meets once a week and class time will be spent in a combination of tutorial, hands on learning, critique of projects and discussion of larger issues related to subject matter.
