melting igloo
melting igloo (originally The Melting Igloo) is a classically elusive group,
influenced by Cabaret Voltaire (first single on Rough Trade), The Smashchords,
Pavement (first single, before Drag City) and Zoviet France (because they put
out records wrapped in foil and yarn).

	"We spend a lot of our time in the worst of modern environments -
	corporate office parks, strip malls, traffic jams, but that's where
	we take our inspiration from - the pneumatic whoosh of the elevator
	door closing, the 'ding' as your floor comes up; car alarms;
	customer-service call-centers; modem chatter and grinding hard drives."

Their second single, Down by Powerlines takes it's cues from
City of Glass (Bob Graettinger/Stan Kenton Orchestra)
as well as the groups extensive research into SS7 lines:

	"We were designing busy signals for ATT and one of their engineers gave us
	a tape of what the switching actually sounds like and that's where
	the piece started from."
