   SHOWS - the "SHIPWRECK" era

This must have been the most confused era of any of the confused svs eras. Anyone who knew me at the time could tell I was confused. Who played in the band? I know we made a record - Shipwreck as Al Larsen, Tobi Vail (Go Team) and Louise Olsen (Matrimony). But Brad Sweek (Young Pioneers) was in this line-up too. Lisa (Calamity Jane) drummed a few or one shows too. I have a spooky memory of being onstage in a pair of bad slacks with Bill Karren (Go Team) playing drums behind me. Bob Bulgrein (Seaweed) drummed too until he worked up the courage to stop. John Goodmanson (Dangermouse, Seattle producer) didn't rehearse but he played guitar when we opened for the Melvins. Did any of this really happen? We drove to Portland and the Satyricon had just been bombed (rubble, show cancelled).

"...and if it's shipwreck, you can
shipwreck all you want
and if it's desert isle, you can desert isle your fill..."

There was a "Shipwreck"-era interview with Some Velvet Sidewalk/Al Larsen in Mike Appelstein's excellent Writer's Block 'zine issue 5, published October 1989
